Read reflection →Psalm 90:17 is both a blessing and a request: “Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us.” As I read these words, I am reminded that our work matters to God—not because it must be perfect, but because every day and every gift belong to Him.
Creating can become a way to pause and remember the One who made us. I can bring my attention, skill, and time to the work before me, asking Christ to shape my heart as I work and trusting God with what comes of it.
Today’s work may be a painting, a meal, a repair, a note of encouragement, or a task no one else sees. Whatever is in our hands, we can offer it to God: Lord, may the wonder of Your creation and the depth of Your love inspire this work. Shape it according to Your will, use it for good, and let it be a blessing to others. Amen.
I am learning that hospitality is not a performance. It can be as simple as making room, sharing what is already on the table, and giving another person our attention.
In Scripture, welcome is woven into the way God calls us to care for our neighbors. A meal does not need to be elaborate to say, “You are welcome here.” A familiar dish, an extra place setting, and a generous spirit can be enough.
When the day is full, the meal can be simple and the welcome sincere. We can thank God for the food, for the people gathered, and for the grace to receive one another as Christ has welcomed us.
Some days I have words for prayer; other days, a familiar hymn helps me find them. The songs of the church carry Scripture, comfort, and hope across generations, reminding us of the faithfulness of God.
Keeping a hymn close can be a simple way to turn our thoughts toward Jesus. Read a verse before beginning a task. Let one line return to mind while you cook, create, or care for someone. The work may still be difficult, but we do not carry it alone.
My prayer is that the truths we sing will steady our hearts, draw us closer to Christ, and shape the way we love the people God places before us.
